In the small surf town of Jeffreys Bay, South Africa in 2015, Tina and Phil met while she was pursuing her master's degree and he was working as a freelance editor for the World Surf League. Despite their initial impressions – Tina, a studious bookworm and Phil, a lively party-goer – they formed a friendship and were friends for four years.
